The progression in the image is presenting the idea of negative connotation towards new generations. From the robot character in the image, the viewer can infer that the labor performed by man will eventually lead to the fall of our superiority. The laborer performing tasks on the robot is shown to have less dignity by being on his knees and lower to the ground. Taking a step back in time, the new device is holding a punch card, leading the audience to believe that this generation needs technology to perform tasks that were done regularly by humans for decades. The advancement from the beginning stage is being presented as digression in man but progression in technology. Even the man with a suit and briefcase is staring at his phone angrily and looks inattentive to the world around him, which shows that a robot might soon take his career.
Throughout the history of the human race, many technological advancements have been made. These advancements have proved to be beneficial until recently. In current times, technology is consuming our lives entirely as seen in the figure with the man walking only paying attention to his phone. From here a person can only expect technology to become even more influential on our lives. In the figure, it shows a man producing an automated machine to perform simple jobs that humans are capable of doing. As technology improves at such a fast rate it is doing only negative things to humanity. These things may not seem to have a negative affect on the quality of our lives at the moment, but it can be assured that once technology consumes every aspect of our lives, laziness will prevail.
Modern technology has changed the goals and tasks in the everyday life. The picture shows the first person holding a banana in which one could infer he gathered it rather than buying it from Walmart for instance. Progressing on to the third person who holds a spear, the spear might have been used fro hunting animals for food. This step it a progression because of the efficiency of hunting animal takes less time and provides more food. The fourth person is not concerned about food due to the fast he has a device in front of his face and brief case in the other hand. He is concerned about the device which could be one of two things, a form of entertainment or work/education. The last person, who appears to be welding a robot, is concerned on fixing the robot in which the it could then preform functions instead of the fifth man having to do these functions. It is a different way of thinking and indicates a lack of motivation through the progression. From the first three humans to the last two, the ones that appear to be more progressed do not get their own food and have technology preform a lot of their tasks.
The blazing fast progression of technology is actually making the human being regress. We started out as an ape and over time we started to learn to use tools and became smarter until we reached our pinnacle and started creating technology to make our lives easier. This is obvious when you look and see that as man progressed we got taller to show a gain of superiority until we bent down on our knees to make a robot which, following the previous logic, is superior to us. Not only does the height show a regression so does the job the man using his phone goes from what looks like a business man, perhaps a lawyer, to a welder which is a labor job and is typically seen to be inferior to a job like a lawyer.
By viewing the cartoon pictured above, it is immediately made apparent that the rapid advancement of technology is being portrayed in a negative light. There is a steady progression and stereotypical evolution shown, where the cave man eventually changes into a white collar business man, but then things begin to regress. Instead of a taller, more masculine, and picturesque human shown, it is a man bending down on his knees welding a robot. It's as if he is bowing, or showing submission to the technology as he does the dirty work, and has accepted that it's taken his place. The robot also holds a punch card, which is slightly ironic considering they haven't been used frequently in the past decade, since they've been replaced with an electronic system. The main incentive that this piece is meant to be negative is the seemingly annoyed facial expression on the business man and somewhat pitiful role reversal with the welder and the robot. It invokes a "is this what the world has come to?" reaction from the viewer, and may appeal more to an older audience.
We as a race are to focused on technology that we are not progressing as a whole. The picture shows a line of evolution and from that we can see how we, as a whole, are beginning to downfall. We progress until we hit the modern cellphone age. The human race is now addicted to technology and is only focused on the advancements in technology. The picture shows the man with the cellphone, then a welder on his knees building a robot that is supposed to seem "superior" to everyone else. What they don't realize is that they are so focused on building robots that they aren't making progress in more important areas such as agriculture and travel. Which is what causes the downfall of the human race. If we weren't so focused on technology then we would be progressing as a race instead of having to go downhill.
In the picture, the theory of evolution and progression is very evident. As time goes on, the characters get taller as a notion of superiority. However, the man welding is on his knees and the robot he is working on is taller than all before. The robot is also holding a punchcard that would generally be considered and old way of clocking in to work. The picture is hinting that though humans progressed for many years, recently we took a step backwards. The picture is showing that even though we think we are progressing, we actually aren't. The regression is apparent by the punch card and the welding man on his knees. Since the robot is taller, the people think they are advancing even though they really aren't. The picture has a very negative connotation to it regarding the evolution of technology. There is also a notable gap between the third and fourth people. This may contribute to the theory of how quickly we advanced. It goes from a man that still hunts with a spear to a business man with a smart phone. However, the gap between the businessman and the welder is very small. It is showing that men regressed from doing sophisticated business work to more hands on work that many would consider to be less important blue collar work. In conclusion, the picture has many negative connotations to it with very few positive ideas to be considered about it.
The image given shows the progression of humans throughout the course of history. The humanoids showed in the image are progressing through the first 3 transitions , but the last three characters shown in the image have a negative connotation. The image is very similar to the sterotypical image showing the progression of humankind until the fourth charater is shown holding a cellphone with his eyes glued onto it. The fourth character is the first glimpse of modern humans the image shows, and because he is so distracted by the cellphone , he can not see where the technology is leading him. The fifth character is when the image truly shows technology in a dark, negative light. the fifth character is welding the sixth character, a machine that is shown holding a punch card and a tool box labeled "automation". The fifth character is obviously showed as a step down from the last character because he is performing manual , grunt like work in order to advance the robot ahead of him while on his knees. The artist chose to portray the character on his knees in order to both physicaly and literaly put him below the generation behind him. Both the characters that are fully humanoid are so distracted by thechnology that they can not see the future , this is what the artists was trying to portray with his image.
The picture is showing a negative view on the advancement of technology. We see that the robot is taller than the figures behind it. This shows a superior concept that puts the robot as the most powerful over the humans and the welder making the robot. That gives a negative connotation on technology.
We also see the welder, who is on his knees doing hard labor to have the robot do jobs from the past, as we can see from the punch card. From the facial expressions from the humans we can see that the man in front with the phone seems very unhappy, then behind him, slightly less unhappy and so on.
The picture shows that the progression through time is relying more on automation. The picture gives this progression through time a negative connotation and that we, as humans, are now down-grading. We know this because in the image it shows that the welder is on his knees and that is usually a sign of submission. Welding is also a hard working labor job that can sometimes be thought of as lower. The robot that the welder is building is also taller than all the other people/primates, giving it a feel of superiority. The image of the robot and the welder give the sense that the human race is bowing down to new technology. The robot is also being used to do more thinking jobs.
Modern technology is pushing humanity back to lower standards from which we came. In the picture, you see the evolution of humans, but you also see technology come into play. The man holding a phone, is looking down with a mad expression, as to where the things before him are looking up, expressing that when technology came into play, we lose sight of what's around us and what is actually going on. We also see the next man on his knees welding, a labor job, which makes that man look as if he is on a lower standard then the man before him. The welding man is working on a robot, a technological advancement, which is holding a punch card and briefcase as if it is going to work. The "working" robot is larger than any other man before it, demonstrating that technology is taking over and will be "bigger" and "better" than anything humans ever were. The irony is that the man on his knees is working on the robot to make it go, which demonstrates my final point. Technology pushes man to work on the technology itself, but this will only push humanity farther down due to the fact that if we have technology do everything for us (humans), humanity won't make any advancements and will only make us decline.
Throughout time, mankind always strives to move forward and achieve many things. Technology was invented, computers got smarter, and robots were made. Now, technology is taking over the world. In this image it displays to us that, while mankind did evolve, it is almost as if, ever since technology was discovered, we went back in time. In the image it is clearly displayed to us that mankind evolved from monkeys all the way to the modern day human. When one examines closer, they can see that the first 3 men are looking forward, almost as if they're showing that they want to move forward and discover new things. The fourth man is looking down holding his phone, and has a mad expression on his face. He's distracted by the technology that is now so popular in the modern world. The next man in front of him is now kneeling down to technology, almost as if he is worshiping it and fixing the little kinks about the robot. The robot is off to do our job, and it is much taller than everyone else displayed in this picture, almost as if it is superior to mankind. The fourth and fifth men are both appearing to be sucked into technology, and them looking down sucked in by it an foreshadow how mankind is slowly going back in time and sending the robots back their so they can do our jobs for us. At first, technology was good, but the image helps to show the bad side about technology too that everyone helps to hide.
Throughout the picture the trend seems to be going up, or going in a positive direction. When we get to the modern day man, we start to see a trend of going down, or going in a negative direction. After the guy walking in a suit while looking at his smart device, we see this negative trend. The picture shows the mechanic on his knees possibly to say we consider them "lower" than other people with other jobs, while the machine he is working on is taller than everyone else in the picture. Which depicts the technology better than us and smarter than us. The robot is also holding a case that says automation which displays automaton in a negative way. The robot is also holding a paper that says punch card. Knowing that we used punch cards a while ago it leads me to believe the creator of this image believes we are moving back in a sense .This picture shows how well we have done to get to the spot we are at, but once we got to this spot we are undermining ourselves by making technology to do certain jobs that not a lot of people want to do. This could lead to many different things.
A claim about modern technology using the picture is that as society has progressed throughout time, we have reached a point where technology is supposedly the most important tool used modernly. The more advanced we get the more superiority we have over places that are less advanced. As shown in the image, directly after the business man is a welder, on his knees, working on a robot. By depicting the welder as lower than the business man it signifies that his job is seen as a lower occupation in society. The robot he is working on is the tallest figure on the scale and is shown to be holding a punch card, something that hasn't been used for many years. This is a digression in time as even though the robot is supposed to be the most advanced figure on the scale, its being used for an outdated job. Society believes that the robot is needed because it's an advanced form of technology, but in reality its just replacing the job of a person and not even doing a complex job or task.
Modern technology has came to an all time low. Overtime, technology has lessened the importance of human work. The progression of technology has had a negative effect on humans and will continue to do so.
Looking at the image you get a strong connotation that as we have advanced and grown we have became less important. As you can see the robot is able to do everything a human had once had to do for themselves. The two figures at the beginning show how humans had to hunt and work for their food, but as we progress there is no need for that work anymore. We get everything we want with a snap of our finger.
If technology continues to grow, people will stop doing the things that were once necassary for survival. Our society will lack the tools that are needed for everyday life, and our intelligence will slowly decrease.
Modern technology is making humans take a step back and not living life like they used to. They used to have to work for things and now we don't have anything to do. Modern technology is taking life away from us. From the beginning of time, man has been evolving and growing to better life style. In the image, it shows the beginning where the monkey has only a banana to survive and then so forth creating stuff to make life possible. We then create the phone, as shows in the image, and we have everything we really need. We don't need to work for anything. Everything we would possibly need is at our fingertips in the modern day. With the robot being built, it shows a form of labor by man, so that we won't have to do anything as humans. Everything would be done for us like, for example, punch cards. We can do that ourselves, but we are creating something where we won't even have to do that ourselves. Eventually, we will end up not having a purpose in the world because technology will do everything that we should be doing ourselves.
This picture depicts a process of evolution, starting with an animal slowly turning into a man and ends with a robot. This display of evolution has a sort of negative spin on how technology is changing and becoming more superior. This is shown by having the robot stand taller than the rest of the humans as if to show power and importance. Going along with power the picture also displays a man kneeling to weld part of the robot, this adds to the power play on the robot. There however is a twist, the robot is holding a piece of paper that says, "punch card," on it. This shows that although the robot is depicted to be superior to humans it is also going back in time and doing jobs humans find are beneath them. It is as if humans know robots and other technology is above them, but force them to do the jobs they find are beneath them, almost in a way to keep their power.
the image shows evolution, it shows how man has evolved to become stronger and smarter then, it shows a man n his knees welding a robot holding a punch card. the image is conveing the idea that man kind is starting to use robots to do work for them, and that robots are becoming stronger. the first figure is an ape, the next is a man that has monkey like characteristics showing evolution.the third figure is a man that we consider looking like a cave man, then we see a man holding a briefcase and a smart phone in the fourth picture, this is the introduction of modern technology. the fifth figure is a man on his knees welding a robot, this seems to show mankinds evolution slowing down, turnig to robots to do their jobs for them. the image is trying to show man kinds slowing evolution and the rise of robtic evolution
Adam Zyglib recreates the classic evolution graphic to make social commentary on the regression of man due to the negative influence of technology.
His use of spacing and positions shows the dramatic speed at which technology has transformed man from primate to businessman and back again as slave to technology- bowing on his knees.
Keen audiences would note the distracted, seemingly unhappy modern figure who has quickly allowed himself to be replaced, performing manual labor and reverting to punch cards.
The artist would understand modern viewers' fear of being replaced by automation and reinforced this emotion visually with regression in height and a loss of superiority. Perhaps viewers will raise their eyes from their devices and reach for the spear and fight this takeover.
